History of the Academy
The election of Ilham Aliyev as President of the National Olympic Committee in 1997 contributed to the development of the Olympic movement in our country and created the need to establish the National Olympic Academy in our Republic. In November 1997, the National Olympic Academy was founded in accordance with the Olympic Charter of the International Olympic Committee. Professor Aghajan Abiyev was elected President of the National Olympic Academy of Azerbaijan and successfully leads the Academy until today. In our republic, the National Olympic Academy promotes the ideas of Olympism and by emphasizing the importance of teaching Olympic education in schools and promoting a healthy lifestyle, fair play and rules of conduct among the youth and, in general, among the entire population. During the period of its activity, the National Olympic Academy has held several national conferences and is also represented in several international conferences and seminars.

- 16.-19.10.2014: International Scientific Conference “Physics, Chemistry and Philosophy of the Olympic sport”
- 29.-31.10.2015: 2nd Conference of National Olympic Academies in Europe
- 02.-05.10.2017: International Olympic Seminar/Conference “The Agenda 2020 and the Future of the Olympic Movement”
